Josh Gordon is Back to His Old Ways

So for what feels like the tenth time in Josh Gordon’s career, the inevitable has happened and he has been suspended by the NFL indefinitely. This is not the news you want to hear if you’re a Patriots fan as the Patriots are coming off back to back losses, in December of all months, and Gronk has looked like a shell of himself this season. If you’re a Patriots hater, you have to be happy because regardless of all the talk about how the Patriots are done for, you know deep down you were scared of the Pats going on a run. As a Patriots fan myself, I can say that I’m definitely not expecting much heading into the playoffs. Likely with no first round bye, I could see the Patriots maybe winning a game or two and getting to the AFC Championship game but I honestly can’t see them getting any further than that. The defense just isn’t good enough.

And that is the reason that Josh Gordon was so important to this Patriots team. When Gordon first came over to New England, I figured it would go two ways: he get cut after a week or two, or he’d turn into a force and light up the league. In 10 games with the Patriots he lead the team with 720 yards receiving and had 3 tds, so I would say he turned out to be closer to the latter. Now I never imagined that he would make it this far into the season and fall back to his ways, though we all should have seen it coming. While few details have emerged, the NFL did announce that the suspension was due to violating the program for substances of abuse. It should in no way be that hard for a professional athlete who has the potential to make millions to stay off drugs. But apparently it is for Josh Gordon, and the New England Patriots who went out on a limb to sign Gordon are left without top receiver just two weeks for the playoffs.
