Give UCF a Chance

The new college football playoff rankings just came out and the top 4 are really no surprise—The New Orleans Saints-oops, I mean Alabama, along with Clemson, Notre Dame and then Georgia.  The top three teams are undefeated and Georgia is the highest ranked 1-loss team.  The next undefeated team is sitting in the 8th ranked spot, and they are the University of Central Florida Knights.  I’m not usually one to fight for a team outside of the Power Five conferences to get a shot over teams that are and have played a tougher schedule.  I wouldn’t have said UCF deserved a shot at the college football playoffs last year, even though they were undefeated, and I DEFINITELY think it is absurd that their school and fans claim they won the 2017 National Championship.  But this year is different and I’m on team-UCF.

First of all, the Knights haven’t lost a football game since 2016.  Like I said, they already claim a national championship from last year, which is a very cocky move.  If they really think they belong, let’s just put them in the playoffs and find out.  Let them prove they belong, or get blown out so they will finally shut up.  But THEY HAVEN’T LOST A GAME IN TWO YEARS!  If they don’t get the shot now, they never will, and we’re pretty much saying that no team outside of the Power Five conferences ever will.  Now do I think they are a better football team than Georgia, who currently sits in the final playoff spot?  Absolutely not.  I think Georgia would beat UCF by at least two touchdowns and a field goal.  But the fact of the matter is, UCF deserves this.  They deserve it for themselves and they deserve it for all the schools outside the Power Five to have a chance in the future.  C’mon NCAA selection committee, give UCF a chance!
