Day Six (Conclusion)

Being at the bottom of the seniority ladder at a company that values seniority in everything, I didn’t get my preferred vacation week request.  If I had, I would have used that one week to go on the annual family vacation to Myrtle Beach.  I didn’t even get my back-up preferred week-off request.  Instead, I received what was my third vacation week request.  As soon as I discovered that fact last November, my mind instantly went to road trips.

I didn’t know if anyone would be able to go with me or not.  But I knew one thing: that was not going to play a factor.  If they would be able to, great.  If they would not, then it was not going to matter.  I was going on a road trip whether anyone was able to go with me or not.  Traveling is something I love to do.  It is also something I hadn’t gotten to do at all in 2020.  So I was more than eager to go somewhere new and explore.  But the question was “where?”

For the first couple months of the year, I had New England in mind for a destination.  I have never been any farther northeast than New Jersey, and New England looks like a great destination.  But when I found out that no one would be able to get the same week off, I changed my mind to another destination: the deep South.  New England is a place that my other traveling companions would really like to see, so I decided on a place that I really wanted to see much more than everyone else.  Alabama and Mississippi.

I planned everything out in a few weeks, booked my lodgings, and was excited to embark on a new road trip.  I had never traveled alone, but the idea of it was exciting.  I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.  The end of the work week finally passed and I left out on Saturday morning.  A total of five nights would be spent on the road before arriving back in town on Thursday.

Now that I’m back, I can say I absolutely enjoyed this trip.  It was great to get back on the road and go on a new adventure.  I saw and did so many great things that I’ll never forget.  So, just like I did after my Germany/Austria/Italy trip, I wanted to write a day-by-day account of my adventures, along with some of my best pictures.  That way anybody can read and see my experiences through my lens.  But more importantly, so I’ll be able to look back on these one day and re-live my own experiences.  I hope you enjoy it.
